About
Something that affords pleasure, diversion or amusement: playing a game of cricket or working on the crossword is entertainment for many. Entertainment is often a form of recreation, but it can also serve a societal function in ceremonies, festivals or satire.
Entertainment can be adapted to suit any scale, from an individual who chooses their own private entertainment to a banquet adapted for two to performances intended for thousands and even global audiences. Many forms of entertainment are inspired by a single original source, for example the story of Scheherazade from Persian professional storytelling tradition, which has been retold in music by Rimsky-Korsakov and Ravel; in film by Pasolini and countless others; and in innovative video games.
