News is a broadcast medium that conveys current and interesting events to the public in an accurate and fast manner. It also presents them in an objective and impartial way in accordance with its own ethical rules.
The news may include any item of current interest, whether it be political, social, economic or sporting in nature. It may also be of historical interest. However, it is the news that relates to people that interests most readers. This is because people want to know what is happening in their world and the lives of those around them.
This can be anything from a celebrity break-up or divorce, to the death of someone who has been a significant figure in history or simply because they are well known locally or nationally. The news can also be of a more personal nature such as a family illness, car accident or the discovery of an ancient treasure. It is also important that news reaches out beyond the local or national boundaries and includes international events and news that affects everyone worldwide.
When writing news articles it is important to remember who you are writing for. Most publications and broadcasts will have a specific demographic which they are geared towards. Often this will be determined by location, such as a newspaper in Kansas City which is read by residents of that area. Other times it is determined by the type of information being reported, such as zoning laws which will be read by commercial property owners.
